Children’s Day

On Monday 4th August St. Mary’s Primary School recognised National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day.

SNAICC - National Voice for our Children is the national peak body representing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children. National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day is held every year on 4 August and is our national day dedicated to celebrating our children. It’s an opportunity for all Australians to show their support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and learn about the impact that culture, family and community play in the life of every Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander child.

At St. Mary's all students participated in the picture book I Saw We Saw with an art activity.

I Saw We Saw with its stunning illustrations and intriguing text, offers insight into the world of Yolŋu students at Nhulunbuy Primary School. Created through the Indigenous Literacy Foundation’s Community Publishing Program, Yolŋu students from Nhulunbuy Primary School wrote and illustrated this story with Ann James and Ann Haddon over a series of workshops, and alongside Elders from their community, to craft their story in both English and Dhangu, a Yolŋu Matha language. This book is a delight to read and explore, with opportunities to learn Yolŋu Matha.

Event Three

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
