STEM CHALLENGES in the SENIOR CLASSROOM
Senior students participate regularly in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) Challenges with tasks designed to be collaborative and project-based. Students work closely together in a hands-on way to solve real-world problems. Grade 4-6 students recently worked on the task of creating a Marble Run where a maze was created in a shallow box using the materials supplied. Students worked together using trial and error to produce some fantastic results. Straw bridges, foam walls, cardboard tunnels, pipe-cleaner loops and pop stick ramps combined to create fun and challenging Marble Runs. Some dead ends, secret chambers and alternate routes made the final products all the more exciting. Final evaluations of the task; challenges, successes and future improvements are reconsidered in future tasks.
