NAIDOC Celebrations 2018

On the last day of Term 2, St. Mary's students and staff recognised NAIDOC (National Aboriginal and Islanders Day Observance Committee) week. which was celebrated nationally during the holidays.

The morning began with a liturgy and prayer.
Ethan, Nullah, Jaya, John, Zachariah, Darnell and River carried the aboriginal & Torres Strait Island flags into the shared prayer space to begin the celebration.
After the liturgy, students enjoyed making an environmental artwork in the school's courtyard. They worked in pairs to decorate a section of a large serpent, which had been outlined on the concrete, using a variety of foliage sourced from our local environment. The students had fun selecting from the range of different barks, grasses, leaves and other interesting plant matter, and using these to create patterns inside the serpent.

Well done to all students for their co-operative work and impressive creation.

A barbecue lunch added to the day of celebration and was an enjoyable way to finish off a busy term,

Great Spirit,
Creator of all,
From the stars to all earth,
Help us to accept the differences of others,
To be fair and respectful,
To be responsible learners and to move towards the future as forgiving people.
Forgive us when we go wrong and help us to forgive those who are wrong.
Amen.
