Grade Four

Language:
Reading: During Term One the reading focus is on identifying words that students can decode but do not fully understand the meaning of the word and using effective strategies to learn the meaning of the word.

-Read on the full sentence and passage and predict.

-Participate in group discuss and use knowledge of other students.

-Use a dictionary.

The comprehension focus will be answering questions using part of the question to place in a sentence.
Group discussion ‘wonderings’.  Share in discussion questions you wondered about.

Writing:
Students to write a narrative using sequence, paragraphs and descriptive vocabulary. Students edit their writing for punctuation, spelling and enhancing the story by the use of interesting words.

​Grammar: 
Revise nouns and verbs and focus on adjectives and adverbs.

Spelling:
Students accurately spell the initial 400 High Frequency words. Cover the oi / oy sounds and the different letter combinations to represent the sound or

​Handwriting:
Commence using cursive script.

Mathematics:
Number Facts Students practice the automatic recall of addition and subtraction number facts – doubles, single digit, add and subtract 10, counting on / back and rounding to 10.
