chinese cultural day 2017

On Friday, November 24, as part of our mission effort, students were treated to a Chinese Immersion Day. As part of the day's activities, the Foundation to Grade 3 students prepared and cooked spring rolls while the Grade 4/5/6 made and cooked hand made noodles. Everyone enjoyed sampling their wares for lunch, along with some traditional steamed rice.
Mrs. Hogan and Mrs. Drum presented their photos from a recent Chinese Study Tour and told of interesting experiences they had whilst away. Students then participated in activities creating Chinese lanterns and Giant Pandas.
Attached are some recounts of the day by the senior class.

chinese day - summary

On Friday 24th of November St. Mary’s school celebrated a Chinese Day to reflect on Mrs. Hogan’s and Mrs. Drum’s recent study tour to China. The day consisted of firstly making food for lunch, sharing photos of the trip and then making lanterns. For lunch we had delicious rice, homemade spring rolls and soy sauce coated noodles that the Gr. 5 and 6 made. We had to eat our food with chopsticks. In the afternoon we all split back into our classes. The Gr. 4, 5 and 6 started making 3D pandas. The whole day was a blast.

(Chinese Day)

Last Friday, 24 November, the whole school had a Chinese Day to enjoy photos of Mrs. Hogan and Mrs. Drum’s trip to China. To start off the day, the 4/5/6’s made and baked simple, homemade, delicious, Chinese noodles while the 2/ 3’s made and baked simple, homemade, delicious, Chinese spring rolls.
Later on during the day, before our Chinese Lunch, Mrs. Hogan and Mrs. Drum showed us their presentation of the Chinese photos they had taken. We listened to them as they shared facts and explained what they did. Minutes passed and we grabbed our Chinese chopsticks, grabbed a bowl of Chinese food and a drink and enjoyed every bite of our Chinese Lunch.
After Lunch and a bit of play, as a whole school, we did arts and crafts activities making
Chinese lanterns that are now hanging in the corridor. It was fun and enjoyable. The day then concluded with everyone going back to their class, talked about our favourite part of the day, packed up and went home when the bell rang.

chinese day

On Friday 24th of November our whole school had a Chinese day. At the start of the day the 4/5/6 class made traditional Chinese noodles with Mrs Hogan and Miss McEvoy. We made the noodles for lunch.
After recess we had a look at the photos that Mrs. Drum and Mrs. Hogan took and then we made colourful bright Lanterns until lunchtime. At lunch we had lemon water, rice, noodles and spring rolls. All the food was great and the water was very sour. After lunch we made an origami panda that was so difficult to make. After we got halfway through the panda it was 3:20 p.m so we had to pack up. The Chinese day was great and I would like to thank all the teachers for helping with the day.

chinese day

Friday our school had a Chinese day.  We all split up into groups and Grades 4/5/6 made noodles and grade three and down made spring rolls.

Making the noodles was quite a challenges but it was so much fun I would do it one hundred times over if I could. I enjoyed making them so much. It sounded like the F/1/2/3   had a lot of fun too. After we finished making them we went outside waiting for them to be cooked.

After they were ready we went and chose what  type of food we wanted. At the end they were all so nice .
